Why do my kids need chiropractic?
A child encounters many physical stresses during their growing years-they trip, fall, stumble, and GROW. The resulting problems in cihldren's spine can occur at almost any point in their development and growth.
The earliest challenge a growing spine faces is in the position it is forced to adopt in utero. Many women seek chiropractic care during pregnancy and are aware of how different fetal positions can cause problems with labor. What is less well known is that these fetal positions can also cause problems in the baby's spine as well. Not to mention interventions such as induction, forceps, suction, or C-section can especially impact the cervical spine and nervous system. The cause of many newborn health complaints such as colic, reflux, breastfeeding issues, sleep disturbances, allergic reactions, and chronic infections can often be traced to nervous system irritation caused by spinal and cranial misalignment and there is a plethora of evidence showing that chiropractic is beneficial for these clinical situations.
After birth, many developmental milestones such as learning to hold up the head, sitting upright, crawling, and walking are affected by spinal alignment and are important times to hae a child checked by a chiropractor. Additionally, falls, sports injuries, playground bumps, postural issues, heavy backpacks, and sitting all day in the classroom are all physical stresses to the growing child's spine and nervous system.
What does chiropractic care involve?
The first thing Dr. Treva will do is conduct a thorough history of your child's health and any complaints. This is followed by a chiropractic exam. Dr. Treva has received further training beyond the 3.5 years of chiropractic school in Pediatric Chiropractic Care.
Chiropractic Care at Aligned Modern Wellness is always "tailored" to the individual, whether they are kids or not. Dr. Treva utilizes several different adjusting methods for their patients. We offer specific, gentle adjustments appropriate to the infant and child's spine. Spinal adjustments for infants and young children involve very light fingertip pressure. The amount of "force" is not more than a finger touch. Other techniques inolve the use of hand-held instruments which offer specific and gentle correction.
